Do You Have the Millionaire Mindset?

    Monday, March 31st, 2008

There’s one thing all self-made millionaires understand and live by. It’s incredibly important for developing the millionaire mindset and for learning how to become a millionaire. This one concept can flat-out make or break your chances for wealth building or achieving success in anything you desire. I’m talking about discipline versus regret.lots of hundred dollar bills

Multi-millionaire, Jim Rohn, explained it well in a recent interview. Jim is considered to be one of the world’s formeost philosophers on achieving success. He’s also been a key influence on some of the most successful people in recent history.

Here’s what Jim said about discipline versus regret in the interview… “We suffer one of two things. Either the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. You’ve got to choose discipline versus regret. Because discipline weighs ounces and regret weighs tons.

    Let me say that again…

Discipline weighs ounces and regret weighs tons. The reason is because the regret is an accumulated effect a year from now, two years from now, when you didn’t do the easy discipline. It’s like a cavity in your tooth. The dentist says if we fix it now, it’s only $300 and if you let it go, someday it’s going to be $3,000.

So, the easier pain of the $300 and sitting in the chair for just a little while takes care of it. But, if you let it go, that’s no good. The dentist says, “this cavity is not going to take care of itself. This is something you’ve got to take care of. You can’t cross your fingers and hope it’s going to go away. That’s not going to help.”

Whatever you see that needs to be corrected, you start taking care of it. If you don’t have a splendid diet, you’ve got to be incredibly thoughtful about how to change that. If your kids don’t have a splendid diet, you’ve got to say, “hey, maybe I should give some attention to my kids and their diet.”

Do you now see the power of this crucial millionaire mindset? It’s all about choosing discipline versus regret. What area of your life or your business do you need to apply some disciplines to so you don’t end up feeling the huge weight of regret? Get started immediately. Because you now know that it won’t take care of itself.

    Rama’s Screen: Hollywood’s Top 5 Meanest Bullies

    Thursday, March 27th, 2008

All work and no play makes the Young & Successful feel unbalanced! To rescue our overworked souls, YSN member and movie aficionado Rama Tampubolon discusses the latest hot topics and movie reviews every Thursday on Waste Time Wisely. He runs the movie review and discussion blog, Rama’s Screen, and was featured in “United 300,” which won for “Best Spoof” at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards.

Have you ever been bullied by a coworker? A new study revealed that about 37% of employees have been “repeatedly mistreated in a health-harming way” at the office. Looks like being pushed around isn’t limited to just the playground!

Growing up was not that easy for me. I was one of those kids who just couldn’t figure out how to become popular. Getting bullied, mocked and, worse yet, confronted by a few of my classmates who wanted my lunch money. I still don’t understand having the urge to beat up somebody just because he looks different! But all I can say is that having a better life is still the most awesome revenge. :)

This is exactly why I can relate to movies like the upcoming release Drillbit Taylor, starring Owen Wilson. Actor Alex Frost who plays Filkin the bully did an excellent job of being very evil. The recent release Never Back Down displays a whole new kind of bully — the one who seems to be addicted to ultimate fighting.

Over the years, Hollywood has come up with some not-so-bad depictions of bullies. Some may see these characters as exaggerations while, for others, they hit too close to home. And so, for this segment, I’d like to give my list of Top 5 meanest movie bullies of all time. If I miss any particular character, just let me know.

    5. Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter movies (played by Tom Felton). What makes a bully worse than his intention to hurt those who he thinks are uncool?.. the wizardry or the magic skills to make his intentions happen.

    4. Lancelot in Shrek the Third (voiced by John Krasinski): This is a really funny, inaccurate portrayal of Arthur’s early life. The thought that Lancelot is mean enough to pull pranks on what would become one of the greatest kings in England’s mythology is plain hilarious.

    3. Regina George in Mean Girls (played by Rachel McAdams): Of course it’s a comedy and therefore some of the stuff might come across as over the top but the evil queen bee and the girl-on-girl cattiness give this movie its sting.

    2. Stan Gable in Revenge of the Nerds (played by Ted McGinley): The only thing meaner than a high school bully is a college bully. They’re like creatures who can’t live a second without bullying someone. If they see someone who looks like a nerd, walks like a nerd and talks like a nerd, then it must be lunchtime for Stan Gable and his jerk buddies.

    1. Biff Tannen in Back to the Future (played by Thomas Wilson): Here is the ultimate bully of all bullies. The whole franchise or trilogy present him as the kind of bully who remains a bully no matter what era he’s in. He can be a young high school bully, old bully, futuristic bully, 1950’s bully, rich bully, you name it.

Add Hours to Your Day by Sleeping Less, Doing More

    Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Sometimes those 24 hours in a day just don’t seem like enough time to accomplish everything on our to-do lists. But if you were really able to add more hours to your day, would you?

young people sleepingBack in 2000, the Uberman’s Sleep Schedule created a buzz on the internet as a way to gain more waking hours in the day. Instead of sleeping in a single eight-hour block of time (or monophasic, as most people do), you stick to a strict schedule of six 20-to-25 minute naps every four hours.

The idea behind this polyphasic sleep schedule is that you train your body to enter REM sleep immediately, the most important phase, so that the cumulative three hours of shut eye you do get leave you feeling refreshed and mentally alert. The biggest selling point is that if you start this sleep method at age 20, you gain more than 11 years in the average lifespan!

Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Edison and Napoleon are rumored to have been chronic nappers, and there are several blogs from individuals who have tried Uberman’s Sleep Schedule, including personal development guru Steve Pavlina. Many critics say you can’t switch the body’s natural tendency toward monophasic sleeping and warn that just napping could cause similar side effects to sleep deprivation. To date, there have been no scientific studies.

Obviously, the strict napping schedule makes it difficult for those with classes, meetings or a regular 9-to-5 job (unless you have a very understanding boss). One of the biggest complaints about the system? Boredom. With 22 hours in a day, there’s just not enough to do!

What do you think? Would you do it?
